The Endangered Rainforest As a way for students to recognize the amazing diversity of nature and the interdependence between humans and animals, students research the rainforest and it’s animals using the Internet and other printed sources. After they research and present the facts about a chosen animal, they create a classroom rainforest mural with life size animals. Students create and publish an original story about the rainforest using Storybook Weaver (The Learning Company). Students gather data from peers about each child’s favorite rainforest animal and input the information on a spreadsheet template already created. Using this data, students recommend which animal should be selected as a class mascot. This lesson plan was created by: Patricia Hicks from L. C. Kennedy, Creighton Elementary School
