| Appropriate Web Sites: Think Quest: Math Abundance This site offers everything from Pre-Algebra to Geometry, Algebra, Algebra II and Pre-Calc/Calculus help. It has a Formula Database, Calculus Board, Quizzes and more. A very cool site for students and teachers! PBS Teacher Source is another great source for more than one subject and grade level. Click here to go directly to information about Patterns/Functions and Algebra! The Math Forum This is an interesting site I found that offers a place for students to get new math problems to work on each week as well as Internet activities and projects that they can do. There is a section for math teachers where they can share lesson plans, learn about math software and find out about educational workshops. Quite cool! NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics): This site gives the NCTM standards as well as a page specifically for teachers, called Teachers Corner. The Teachers Corner page offers opportunities for Professional Development, Web resources, teaching resources and activities for your classroom. Their is also a Family Corner page which offers an overview of math organizations, a section to aid in your understanding of the NCTM Standards and additional math resources for families. MICLIMB MATH This site was created by the Michigan Department of Education to clarify each core area benchmark. Viewers can search for benchmarks in three different ways: using the Benchmark Search Box, the Quick Select Box or the Text Search. Once you click the grade level and the strand you want to see, the resulting page displays the content standards and benchmarks. Discovery School's Web Math This is an overall great site with information for both teachers and studnets. Click here to go directly to the student page. They can get Homework Help, Brain Boosters, Puzzlemakers and more! |

Example Lesson Plans: Do I Need Insurance This lesson is multi-disciplinary and would work for math, language arts and technology. This lesson will motivate students to become aware of insurance, to learn about the different types, costs, and coverage. Students will participate in this lesson and compare their family's health care to their income, compare the cost of health insurance to their expected future income, and make a choice about what type of health insurance they would choose based on the gathered information. Mathline: Pennies, Pressure, Temperature, and Light (Inverse Functions) High School Math Project The major goal of this lesson is to collect data from a variety of experiments, and then determine what type of model best fits the data, and explain why. Students will explore a variety of relationships using pennies, pressure, temperature, light, and pendulums to determine the algebraic equation that best represents the pattern modeled by the variables involved in each situation. All of the information you need is found here at the website and you can print out a .PDF version from here as well.
