Appropriate Web Sites: The Read In THE READ IN! is an online interaction between children's authors and illustrators, and K-12 students. It began in 1993 and each year the popularity has increased so that annual registration has to be closed early. THE READ IN! has been acknowledged by The America Reads program that was sponsored by the White House and the Secretary of Education under President Clinton. THE READ IN! is also partnered with RIF: Reading Is Fundamental. This organization has given the project outstanding coverage in its literature, and presentations, including a statement that ‘one should read whether in a library, school or cyberspace.’ CyberGuides CyberGuides are supplementary, standards-based, web-delivered units of instruction centered on core works of literature. Each CyberGuide contains a student and teacher edition, standards, a task and a process by which it may be completed, teacher-selected web sites and a rubric, based on California Language Arts Content Standards. In the guides, the magenta text indicates the language (or context-appropriate equivalent to the language) of the content standards. Children's Literature Web Guide This is a wonderful listing of children's authors and illustrators, sectioned alphabetically. The site is particularly cool because it links to the author's home webpage, if they have one.
