Personal Strengths and Weaknesses

The first STEP in the process is to give serious and reflective thought to what you believe are you own personal strengths and weaknesses on both a personal and academic level. To begin the first project, you must go to www.blogspot.com and create a blog. Watch this brief video about what a blog is before you begin. Once you have created your personal blog, be sure to email Ms. Colburn (use the email address lsited on this page above) and tell me the name of your blog as well as the URL. Write your first blog entry and answer the following questions:

1. What do you think your personal strengths are as a person and specifically as a student?
2. What do you think your weknesses are as a person and specifically as a student?

Additionally, you will look at your grades from 6th, 7th and 8th grade in each subject, analyze them and create charts using Microsoft Excel. Get your grade information sheet from Ms. Colburn and use this instruction sheet for creating several charts in Excel. Each chart will be saved as a separate file in your named folder on the S:DRIVE. Create the following charts:

You will also have an opportunity to interview a parent, counselor or teacher for the next project. Use Microsoft Word to write questions to pose to your parents that might help you get a clearer picture of who you are and what your strengths and weaknesses are. Use Microsoft Word to write questions to ask your counselor and at least one teacher who has had you in class. You may use the video camera to video tape your interview with either the counselor or the teacher. Check that out with Ms. Colburn. After you have completed the videotaping, you will use Microsoft Movie Maker to edit the finished product into a short (3-5 minute) movie. This will be saved into your named folder on the S:DRIVE. Click here for a handout on how to upload the raw film. Click here for a handout on how to retrieve the film for editing. Finally, you will also take three different "Learning Style" surveys to help you to better understand what type of learner you are. Click here for the first survey. Click here for the second survey. Click here for the third and final learning style survey. Save all results in your named folder on the S: DRIVE.

When you have completed all of the above, you can click the Careers link and move on to the next STEP in the process.
