PROJECT: SHED
(Students Helping to Eliminate Diseases)

For PROJECT: SHED 8th grade students researched the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital web site. They learned about the various facets of the organization, from how they help children who have various types of cancer and leukemia to how they raise money to run the hospital to how people can get involved and help out. Technology Literacy students did the research, produced Power Point slide shows and showed them to the Physical Education Students. All students then collected sponsors for a St. Jude Run/Walk-A-Thon. At the end of the quarter, these students spent two hours actively running and/or walking to be able to earn the money from their sponsors. In total, students raised over $1700 which was presented to St; Jude's in January. At the end of the quarter, Technology Literacy students participated in a "Day of authentic Assessment" and invited parents and sponsors to come and share as they showcased their work. The pictures below were taken the day of the Run/Walk-A-Thon. Top fundraiser's (above) pose with Ms. Colburn and with their special awards. Students who raised t last $35 received a St. Jude T-Shirt. Those raising $75 more also received a gym bag.
