Project SHARC
(Students Helping the American Red Cross)
|

|
If you think you have problems, try looking around the
world. Take a look at the recent Tsunami victims and maybe your own life
doesn’t seem so bad after all!
- On the Internet, research the American
Red Cross. You may go to www.redcross.org
to search for information about the organization. Find out what types of
services they provide and to whom they provide these services.
- Find pictures and facts to use in your
presentation. You may go to www.cnn.com
or www.msnbc.com to find photos to use
in your slide show. These are the only acceptable
websites.
- You will need a minimum of 20 facts. These notes
should be handwritten on a separate sheet of paper. Make sure that your name,
grade and class period are written in the upper right
hand corner of the paper.
- In PowerPoint, you will create a
multimedia presentation complete with music. The idea is to produce
a 3-4 minute long slide show that will inspire your audience to want to
donate to the Red Cross and specifically to the victims of the Tsunami.
- In Microsoft Word, write a 3 paragraph,
formal business letter to a local business here in Howell. The letter
should be typed in Verdana, Times New Roman
or Ariel font only and should be no larger than a
size 12 font. See the sample letter from Ms. Colburn. Make sure
the business owner understands why you are involved in this project, and
what it is you are asking them to do.
- In Microsoft Publisher, create a brochure
or flyer to promote the sponsorship of Mrs. Kelleher’s student’s masks.
Include information about who is selling the masks, how much they cost,
what the money is being used for and who will collect the funds.
- In Microsoft Publisher or Word, create a
flyer about the Day of Authentic Assessment, inviting people to attend.
Tell them where it is being held, the time and the purpose of the day.
- You will use Excel to compile
a tally of the proceeds collected.
