PROJECT: HOUSE
(Helping Out Underprivileged Students Everywhere )
|
|
If you think you have
problems, try looking around the world. Take a look at the recent Hurricane
Katrina victims and maybe your own life doesn’t seem so bad after all! Many
of the people who lived to tell about Hurricane Katrina or Hurricane Wilma no
longer have homes to live in. Habitat for Humanity will help build new houses
for many of those people.
- On the Internet,
research the Habitat For Humanity website.
You may go to http://www.habitat.org/local/
to search for information about the organization. Find out what types of
services they provide and to whom they provide these services.
- Find pictures and facts to use
in your presentation. You may go to www.cnn.com
or www.msnbc.com or www.google.com (images) to find photos
to use in your slide show. These are the only acceptable
websites.
- You will need a minimum of 20
facts. These notes should be handwritten on a separate “Fact Sheet” paper
I will give you. Make sure that your name, grade and class
period are written in the upper left hand corner of the paper.
- In PowerPoint, you will
create a multimedia presentation complete with music. The idea is to
produce a 3-4 minute long slide show that will inform your audience and
inspire them to want to donate to the Habitat for Humanity local chapter
or get involved with Habitat for Humanity in some helpful way.
- In Microsoft Word, write
a 3 paragraph, formal business letter to a local business here in Howell.
The letter should be typed in Verdana, Times New Roman
or Ariel font only and should be no larger than a
size 12 font. See the sample letter from Ms. Colburn. Make sure
the business owner understands why you are involved in this project, and
what it is you are asking them to do.
- In Microsoft Publisher,
create a brochure or flyer to promote the local Habitat for Humanity, and
specifically to ask people to donate to them or get involved by
volunteering.
- In Microsoft Publisher or
Word, create a flyer or invitation about the Day of Authentic
Assessment, inviting people to attend. Tell them where it is being held,
the time and the purpose of the day.
- In Microsoft
Word,
write a plan and then a script for a 15-30 second Public Service
Announcement about the work of the local Habitat for Humanity.
- Using digital video
camera, film the PSA.
- Using Microsoft
Movie Maker, edit and produce final version of PSA.
