PROJECT: HOUSE Helping Out Underprivileged Students Everywhere |
![]() |
| For
PROJECT: HOUSE, 8th grade students researched the Habitat for Humanity
web site (www.habitat.org) . They
learned about the various facets of the organization, from how they help
people to build and buy their own home, how Habitat raises funds, to
how people can get involved and help out. Technology Literacy students
did the research, produced Power Point slide shows and showed them to
Mr. Eldred's Applied Technology students
from Three Fires Middle School, the Life Skills, Art, World Language,
and Communications Arts students at Highlander Way Middle School. The
Applied Tech students then built doll houses, which were made to replicate
a "Habitat" home
(simple, decent, affordable houses) and the Art students got busy creating
miniature art pieces and furniture to be placed in the houses. The French
class students labeled all of the furniture in French and the Life Skills
students made paper doll families to go with each doll house. Finally,
the Communication students wrote and filmed skits about families getting
houses from Habitat from Humanity. Click
here to see examples
of the work these other students did.The Technology Literacy students
then sold raffle tickets for a drawing for the doll houses. The drawing
was held during intermission of the Three Fires Middle School play "Crazy
for You." Students
raised over $800 through the raffle and all proceeds went directly to
the Livingston
County Habitat for Humanity. At the end of the quarter, Technology
Literacy students participated in a "Day
of Authentic Assessment"
and invited parents and other classes to come and share as
they showcased their work. Click here to see an example of the invitation
sent by students.
