Final Reflection: Technology Literacy

1)    What was your favorite part of this class? Why? What was your least favorite part of this class? Why?

My favorite part of this class was making the video. It was the most interesting for me to do. I liked being able to work with the camera, and then using a program that I already know to make it really cool. My least favorite part of this class was Microtype. I found that it was boring, and I didn’t like learning things over again that I already knew. Typing the same thing over and over again was very dull too.

2) What did you learn about Microsoft Power Point? What did you learn about Microsoft Publisher? What did you learn about Habitat for Humanity?

I have used Microsoft Power Point before, so I knew a lot of the things already. I learned that you can time a slide to only stay for so long and that you can time it perfectly with the music. I learned that the music that you choose can put a big impact on how seriously people take your PowerPoint.  In Microsoft Publisher, I learned that there are many different styles of brochures, flyers and signs that you can make. They are all different and you can personalize them to fit your needs. You can also start form scratch (blank document) and decorate it using some pretty fancy fonts, pictures, and colors to make it interesting. I learned so many things about Habitat that it would be hard to list them all. I mainly learned about what they do, why, and how. I also learned the most off the stuff that I put into my PowerPoint. I did my PowerPoint on the Jimmy Carter Work Project. Habitat builds homes for people who do not have good homes to live in, or they cannot afford one. Habitat or Humanity gathers volunteers and donations, and, along with the family’s help, build a house that they family can live in. They family buys the house and the money goes into a revolving fund for Habitat to be able to build more houses. The Jimmy Carter Work Project (JCWP) is when Jimmy Carter and his wife donate a week of their time to build houses for people. They have been working with Habitat for nearly 20 years, and they have built houses all around the world for many people.

3) What Project are you most proud of? Why?

The project that I think I am most proud of is my video for Habitat for Humanity. I think that it turned out well, and is not something that I normally do, so I really liked it. I liked being able to change it on the computer to make it impressive and interesting. I liked being able to make credits and titles, and just doing something different like that was really fun. I think that it is a really good piece of work and that it is something to be proud of because you’re getting the message out there so that we can help the people who need it. My PowerPoint did a similar thing, but it didn’t reach as many people.

4) Which project would you have done a better job on? Why? What would you do differently to improve that project?

I think that I would have done better on my slideshow, to make it more interesting. I would have chosen less distracting music, and timed it better. I would have made it so it grabbed your attention and made people want to watch it, which I don’t think it did. I would have chosen better facts, and I would have made it more fun. I would just want to make it more interesting for the audience.
